Craigslist - How to Post Ads to Multiple Cities

Craigslist now requires you to have a phone verified account to be able to post in most cities for most categories. That means you have to have an account that has been verified with the right area code or you cannot post. You can read more about this at How To Bypass Craigslist Phone Verification System.

Most anyone who has ever listed on Craigslist has had to deal with getting their ads deleted. I know someone who listed a used car for sale and a day later the ad was gone! The Craigslist users are the most trigger-happy bunch I have ever seen. They are making it very hard to make money from home with classifieds.

Craigslist is one of the most basic sites you will ever find. It hardly even has a logo! But if you have used Craigslist to promote your business and get traffic to your website, you probably also know that your ads do get seen and do get results.

How then, do you list ads in multiple cities? I know this is frowned upon but many people do it and do it successfully. How do you at least keep the deletions to a minimum?

I have about 10 different emails that I use for Craigslist. Early on I thought that would do the trick to make it look like different people were posting. With 10 different emails you can also post the same exact ad to 10 different cities. Well, that worked fine until one day I got too enthusiastic and made a lot of posts. I made in total about 75 posts spread out amongst the 10 emails. After finishing, I went downstairs to get a bite to eat. When I came back a half an hour later I was in for a big shock! My computer screen was bathed in a sea of pink!

Not only had every ad I posted that day under every email been flagged and deleted, but every ad I had placed for the prior two days as well! I was stunned. I couldn’t believe that all that work was gone in a blink of an eye. What’s worse was I didn’t know whether I had been suspended or banned from Craigslist and my posting career over! Welcome to the world of reality.

With all those ads being instantly deleted by someone at Craigslist it was now evident that they tracked by IP address and not email accounts. That is the only way they could have tied all my ads together. They did leave all my other ads intact that were placed prior to the ones being deleted so I must not have been banned.

I now faced a decision. How would I go about continuing to list without this happening again? I stopped listing to Craigslist for about a week to let things die down a bit as I figured there was no need to take the chance of ringing the alarm bells so soon again. I then gingerly posted an ad or two here and there just to see what happened. They all stuck and so I gradually increased the number of ads.

I knew that the different email accounts didn’t help me that one time but I still didn’t want to abandon them either. I have now settled on listing a maximum of 3 ads per each email account and using about 7 of my different email addresses per day. That makes a total of around 20 posts per day, which is definitely a number I can live with.

I am very carful not to post more than this – very, very careful. I have learned my lessson that I need to be patient and not get too greedy. I do get the occasional ad deleted now and then, but then so does everyone else. Getting a random ad deleted is something everyone on Craigslist has to endure. It’s just part of the Craigslist game!

Using Graigslist is a great way to get free traffic but it is temporary and only works as long as your ad is up. Once it expires or gets flagged, you are faced with the difficulty of trying to get more ads up which is why you are reading this in the first place. There are other ways to get targeted traffic that are also free and even better than using Craigslist. Starting Your Business w/ Credit - OPM (Smart??)

Many of you have asked about using Credit to start your business.  This strategy is commonly referred to as OPM ("Other People's Money) or Capital Leverage.  And, if used correctly is a wise use of credit, especially when most Home Based entreprenuers don't have a lot of money set aside in checking or savings to start their business.

So here is the way this is explained.  It takes money to make money, atleast some money.  Let's say that you have a credit card, a Visa for example, that has $2,000 available.  You want to take advantage of some opportunity and you are considering using your Visa to invest $500 into your business, for whatever purpose.

When you use your Credit Cards that investment will reflect as a purchase.  Tpically you will have 30-45 days before any interest is accrued and any payments are required.  As you know, Visa, M/C, Disc, AmEx, etc, will not require that you pay the full $500 off in the first 30 days, on a typical Credit Card.

You will get your bill and it will reflect the purchase of $500.  However, the minimum monthly payment on that is only about $20.

Now for this strategy to work, and for the business to pay for itself, you need to be generating atleast enough money to cover that payment of $20 so that no money comes out of your pocket.  In that case the business is paying for itself and you can begin operating on profits without having to come out of pocket, up front, the $500.

Now many of you will start thinking about making minimum payments for the rest of your life and high interest rates.  You are thinking like a consumer.  You need, instead, to be focusing on the ROI ("Return On Investment"). 

We never advise using Credit Cards unwisely.  You have to have a plan for your investment and then stick to the plan.  But this example gives you an idea of how to use the Credit you do have to help you build and grow your businesses.  Your Credit Cards also protect you against FRAUD.

A Very Personal Post - Must Read...

First, I want to thank each of you following my posts and I hope that a few of the things I talk about will make a difference and help you pursue your goals of building, growing and maintaining your business.  Home-Based or otherwise.

This is a very personal post and I hope that I can relate the message that is in my heart.  (Not to get to sappy, but oh well).

Today I began working with a client from Idaho.  Nice guy.  He is in his late 40's, married and has 3 kids.  He doesn't hate his job but he really wants to be home more and spend more time with his family.  Anyway, we were talking about why he had decided to work from home.  His story even inspired me and that's why I am sharing it with you.

About a year ago his father passed away.  In the months before he died he was living in a convelesant home.  My client was very close to his father and often looked to him for advice.  One day as the two were talking, my client ask his Dad if he had any REGRETS.  Now understand, my client loved his Dad and admired the way he lived his life and so really did not know what his Dad's answer would be.

So, I want you to imagine my client talking to his father, basically on the brink of life, and looking for some fatherly advice.....

The Dad looked at his son and replied, "I wish I would have taken more risks in life".  True story.  He elaborated to his son that there were times in his life he wished he would have taken a risk to make his families life better.

But that's not all.  My client spoke with one of the nurses at the convelesant home and asked what most of the dieing patients said they wish they would have done in their lives.  By far and away, the most common answer was that they wish they would have taken more risks in their lives.  That was something, most REGRETED.

Most people know that with Risk comes Rewards.  So don't listen to the nay sayers who tell you that you are crazy for doing what you are doing.  I would rather try and fail at something, then to never try at all.

Time is our most valuable asset.  Most everything else can be replace but once time is gone, it's gone.  For me, spending time with my kids when they were young was really important to me.  I had a good career, and people thought I was nuts for leaving a career that I had built.  Even my wife looked at my cross-eyed a time or two.  Now, 15 years later I am thankful I took the risk I did.  I look at some of my friends back then and so many of them are a bit enveous of the time and financial freedom I have with my family.

It's all worth it guys.  Decide what is most important to you, and DO IT.  If you never step out of your comfort zone and take a few risks you will most likely never have what you want most in life.

Fear and the Haunted House....

When I talk to people about getting started with a new business, Fear can dominate their thoughts.  Fear of failure.  Fear of the unknown.  Fear of being inadequate.  We all deal with fear differently.  But let me share with you how a Haunted House experience helps deal with fears of the unkonwn, etc.

Let's take you back a little.  You are talking to your spouse, your friends, kids about going to a scary Haunted House.  In fact, you want to be scared so you look for the scariest Haunted House around.  You get in your car.  Travel out of your way.   Actually pay to be scared.  Stand in line.  Even talk about how scared you are going to be.  Your wife starts holding your arm tight.

Mother Knows Best. Really???

So here is the scenario.  You have a great idea to make money.  You believe you're ready to get started, BUT, before you do, you decide to ask your Mom, a Friend, a Co-worker, etc. what they think about your idea.

Look I am not here to rip on moms.  But, really??  Most times the people who are closest to you are going to tell you "your crazy" "it's a scam" "it won't work", etc.  It's not that any of these people are being mean or really even that negative.  They care about you and don't want to see you hurt.

How many successful people were probably told they couldn't do something.  Most.  So keep your ideas to yourself.  Pursue them with passion and start surrounding yourself with people that support you.  We all want to feel good about what we are doing, but it's up to you to make it work.  So follow your dreams.  Don't let others stand in the way of what you are doing.

Kinda silly question don't you think.  But I am telling you I have talked to so many people who keep buying the same programs over and over and feeling like they've been scammed AGAIN.  Sometimes I wonder if people enjoy being scammed.  (Just Kidding).  No one does.

What's More Important Than Money?
